Jukebox Restoration - Bring Your Jukebox Back To Life

The restoration of various things from a bygone era seems to be a popular past time for many these days. Jukebox restoration, in particular, has been a favorite restoration for a few years now with enthusiasts traveling far and wide looking for dilapidated relics which beg restoring. We should thank these diligent people because by restoring these jukeboxes, they are in effect, restoring our memories. The memories of our childhood when jukeboxes were ubiquitous and taken for granted. Nowadays, of course, these grand old machines are found in old barns, stuck the back room of a broken down diner, lying on their sides in landfills and so on.

Jukebox restoration people, in fact any person who spends the time restoring something once valuable and I personally take my hat off to these unsung heroes. If you think about it, where would movie companies get their props for period movies, if it wasn’t for the restorer? Yes, indeed Hollywood would have trouble making a 1950’s bio-flick about someone like JFK if there weren’t restored jukeboxes and other such items from that era. Jukebox restoration, it seems, is unique in that most people will be surprised and happy when they see a restored jukebox. Like a restore 1952 Ford, people will say things like, “Wow, I remember these things, does it work?” If it’s a jukebox they’ll fiddle with the buttons and try to read the song menu, encased in glass.

John Papa’s Jukebox restoration company is probably a leader in the field. The national Jukebox Society has sent John hundreds of broken down old Jukeboxes for him and his team to restore. For a few thousand dollars, John has brought these old machines back to life. Like the mythical Phoenix - rising from the ashes. His four or five man team strips each jukebox back to its bare bones and rebuilds it until each machine looks and plays as if it had just come off the production line at Wurlitzer or Rockola. With people like John stopping these machines from falling into a void of forgotten relics, there is hope for the future of the jukebox. These old machines are seen as the fore-runners for the modern music players of today. Perhaps the jukebox will make a grand return at some point in the future and every bar; club and restaurant will have one in the corner. We will be able to relive the eras of the 50’s and 60’s and the young of today, will be able to, for the first time, fully understand what life was like back then. Jukebox restoration is a must for our memories.
